WMMS Band Home

Greetings! I am a native of Western North Carolina and am glad to be back in the mountains. I graduated from North Buncombe High School then attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN for a Bachelor of Music degree and a Master of Education degree. McDowell County is a wonderful place to teach and has some of the friendliest and supportive staff and administration. Check out our links to keep current with the activities of the band and become involved with your students' activities.

Returning Instruments

If you are returning to the West Band next school year and you are using a school instrument which works well, hold onto it and keep it safe.  If you are leaving the band program at West (graduation to High school, transferring schools, transferring classes, etc.) and you have a school instrument, return it to the West front office between 8 AM and 3 PM Monday through Friday.  If you are returning to the West band program next year and your instrument is in need of repair, please drop it off with a note which includes your full name and the issue with the instrument.
We do have contracts on these instruments and depend on your prompt action so that we can continue to provide working instruments in coming years.
Thank you!
Mr. Ballard

Kami example
If you are able to access worksheets and other documents in .pdf format for schoolwork, but cannot print or otherwise write or type on them, there are .pdf editors out there.  Check first for safety before accessing any programs or extensions on the internet, but Kami was recommended to me by a student and seems to be working quite well.
In my testing of this particular editor, I saved the .pdf on my computer (could be edited from Drive), then opened the editor (as an extension) and uploaded the .pdf into the editor and was able to type the answers onto the document and save it so that I could Email it back to my teacher!
Research downloads and extensions and speak with your parents first, but this ability is great for distance learning.

Enjoy this collaboration from some of your MCS Staff

Mr. Benjamin Moore, of West Marion, assembled this project and did a wonderful job!
MCS WiFi Hotspots - Updated 4-6-2020
MCS and other local organizations are working together to bring you internet access as we continue to provide your student(s) with distance learning.
Practice meme
I thought some of you might like a classic.  If we are able I would love to play some music together before the year is out.  Play every day 10-20 minutes and keep up on your assignments.  Our current situation is a test of our collective resolve to be awesome and to come out of this performing would be marvelous.
If you do not have your instrument please let me know ASAP (John.Ballard@McDowell.K12.NC.US).  If I return to school to discover you never took an instrument home, YOU WILL NOT PASS BAND.  I'd be happy to figure out how to get it to you.
Have a great Thursday!!!

Thursday Announcements

Happy Thursday!
1- PICK UP YOUR INSTRUMENT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A HOME ONE.  You may pick up today or tomorrow before this weekend which starts Spring Break.  Tomorrow's lesson will focus on what to practice over the break when we do not have other assignments.
2- Make sure you are checking the assignments each day and that you can complete each assignment and understand the material.  These lessons all offer plenty of opportunities to practice as much or as little as you need.  If you are completely confused, (#1) Google it!  (#2)  Email Mr. B @ John.Ballard@McDowell.K12.NC.US

Picking up Instruments

Instruments may be picked up at West Thursday and Friday. Go to the front office and follow their procedures.  You must have your instrument by the weekend.  Go make some music!
