Meet the counselors...
Lora Atkins
Hello! My name is Lora Atkins and I grew up surrounded by the corn fields of Indiana. Even though I wasn't raised here, I got here as soon as I could. I completed my Master's in School Counseling in December of 2010. After working in high school and elementary schools, I've settled in at West McDowell Middle School. I absolutely love being here! Every day I'm inspired, encouraged, and entertained by the students and staff.
Ellen Miller

Hi! My name is Ellen Miller. After spending 13 years as an Elementary School Counselor, 4 of those years in Cleveland County, NC, I was given an opportunity to graduate to the world of Middle School Counseling! I grew up in a military family so we moved a LOT. I call Virginia home because my father was stationed at the Pentagon for 8 years during my childhood and my parents have retired in that state. My husband is a former Marine Corps Officer so, you guessed it, we continued to move a LOT. During all of the moving as an adult, we always talked about living in NC - especially in or near the mountains! So here we are! I have 4 young adult daughters, 2 are married, and live relatively close by.  I am very thankful to be part of the team here at WMMS/FCS and I look forward to getting to know and serve the students and staff!
